Stem cell, embryonic, and gamete research

Research involving human embryos and gametes, human embryonic stem cells and related materials, as well as clinical applications of stem cells, must include confirmation that all experiments were conducted in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations. For further details, see Ethics and Consents.

The manuscript must include an ethics statement specifying the institution or national research ethics committee (including the name of the committee) that approved the experiments. Informed consent must be obtained from all donors or recipients of tissues or cells where applicable, and the conditions under which materials such as embryos or gametes were donated for research should be described. The Editor may request redacted copies of the approval and consent documents, if necessary.

Authors are encouraged to follow the ISSCR Guidelines for Stem Cell Research and Clinical Applications of Stem Cells (2016). Reported research will be evaluated by editors according to these ethical and regulatory principles, and, where appropriate, ethics and regulatory guidance will be sought alongside scientific peer review.
