Sex and gender in research (SAGER)
Authors of our journal are encouraged to follow the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) Guidelines and incorporate gender- or sex-related considerations wherever relevant. Authors should carefully distinguish between sex (a biological attribute) and gender (a social and cultural attribute) to prevent misunderstandings.
The title and/or abstract of the manuscript should clearly indicate which sex(es) the study concerns. The literature review should address whether sex- and/or gender-specific differences may exist, describe how sex and/or gender were considered in the study design, present data disaggregated by sex and/or gender, and discuss the corresponding results.
If a sex- or gender-based analysis was not performed, a clear rationale for this decision should be included in the Discussion section. Authors are advised to consult the full SAGER Guidelines before submitting their manuscript.
